This role will help drive the development and execution of Novartis’ ambition to turn data into a strategic asset across the organization by defining data lifecycle processes, ensuring implementation of the lifecycle processes across the enterprise, managing the engagement between the Enterprise Data Management organization the data-centric programs across Novartis. This role is responsible for ensuring that enterprise data management guidelines, processes, capabilities, and controls are effectively implemented through the strategic programs scope of activity to drive the value of data into the programs. This person acts to drive a ‘data lifecycle’ perspective through coordinating cross-functional and cross data domain decision making aligned with Enterprise standards.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Help define the BDA (Business and Data Architecture) strategy in-line with the overall Data Strategy and drive the same. Develop, implement, and continuously improve governance frameworks for business and data architecture, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and enforce standards and guidelines for business and data architecture, ensuring consistency and compliance across projects. This includes both for current Data Management practices and futuristic capabilities like Unstructured Data Management etc.
  • Manage change requests related to business and data architecture, ensuring alignment with frameworks and standards. Documentation of changes to the guidelines, frameworks and playbooks and timely communicating of the same to the all the relevant stakeholders
  • Lead initiatives to continuously improve architecture capabilities, staying up-to-date with industry trends. Work with business teams (EDO, GPO and Process Excellence) to secure the integrity of data and make sure that the relationship between data attributes remain intact during the end-to-end process flow.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure compliance with the defined business and data architecture frameworks. Collaborate with internal audit and risk management teams to address any identified issues and ensure continuous improvements
  • Evaluate, Recommend and Oversee inclusion of data privacy, access management and data security consideration in overall architecture. Partner with IT, data, and business teams to promote adherence to defined frameworks, drive and ensure understanding of architecture policies
  • Provide support to all the data domains in establishing and strengthening the BDA capability as part of the overall EDM (Enterprise Data Management) journey. Develop and deliver trainings to promote data literacy around business, data and technology architecture
  • Evaluate and recommend tools and technologies to support overall data management (including consumption and maintenance), data governance, metadata management and data architecture. Oversee the implementation and configuration of governance and metadata management related tools
  • Define metrics and KPIs for assessing the effectiveness of governance of architecture frameworks. Track, report, and communicate performance to leadership, identifying areas for improvement and risk mitigation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data governance, data management or related fields, with at least 5 years of experience in leading architecture functions in a large MNC
  • Proficiency in data management and governance tools, such as data catalogs (Collibra preferred), metadata management systems, data quality, data observability, ontology management
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good to have Pharma or Lifesciences background
  • Certifications in data governance, data management (e.g., CDMP, DAMA), or enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF).
  • Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman), and metadata management.
  • Knowledge of cloud data architectures and cloud governance best practices (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
